Riverside Bloodhound Rescue was established in 1993 with the rescue of our first dog, Sassy from death row at a local shelter. She was only 4 months old. Since that time, we have offered sanctuary and rehomed hundreds of these beautiful dogs. These dogs come from all over the mid-Atlantic region from our home state of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, parts of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia and Maryland. About half of our rescues come from other institutions such as all-breed rescues, animal control agencies, and shelters; while the rest come from private homes and families. We are an all-volunteer agency, sanctioned by the American Bloodhound Club, and operate solely on private donations.
All of the dogs that come to our facility are completely health checked, vaccinated, heartworm and Lyme disease tested, and on heartworm preventative. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered prior to any adoption. We work with each dog to evaluate behavior, and training. While we cannot guarantee any dog’s potential behavior in any given situation, we do our best to socialize and give each dog the basics of obedience and house manners while they are in our care, not only to make sure each adoption has the best chance of success, but also to get to know each dog and find the best possible home for each individual.
We also have a thorough application process for potential adoptive families, to make certain that not only are our dogs in good homes, but that we have made the best possible match.
With that introduction, we welcome you to our website! We hope you find it informative, both about our breed, and our rescue program. Thanks for coming!
